About Us
The Tama County Humane Society (TCHS) was founded in 1999. It was originally called “Have a Heart Humane Society”. The name changed to TCHS in 2012. The original founders of the organization worked hard to raise the funds to build a brick-and-mortar rescue.
In March of 2009, they raised enough to purchase the current building for $22,000. It was previously a pizza restaurant in the 1980’s. A litter of 9 puppies were the first rescued animals to be housed in the new building.
Throughout the years, thanks to the help of the community and grants, the animal shelter was able to make renovations to become a shelter that can now house 15 dogs and 35 cats.
